In My Mailbox

The "In My Mailbox" post consists of which books we bought during the past week, hosted by The Story Siren.

I need a day to play hooky and read...  The books in my to-read list went way up this past week.  I believe I'm very much failing my book-buying ban.

For Review:
  • Interrupted: A Life Beyond Words by Rachel Coker

Won from Book Chick City:
  • The Greatcoat by Helen Dunmore
    • Amazon | Book Depository | Goodreads
      • I think I'm starting to like horror novels (slowly but surely).  Horror frightened me away when I read about weird creatures in caves eating people (I'm very much afraid of the dark, so you can imagine how I took to this book).  But we're talking about ghost stories.  I'm game!

From the Library:
  • A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin
    • Amazon | Book Depository | Goodreads
      • Move over small and happy books.  You're being set aside for the big guy who I'm not sure what to expect.  Will this book make me cry?  Will it make me go on a murdering rampage (the show sure made me want to)?  Who knows?  Whatever happens, I blame my husband for making me read this one...

Purchased:
  • Rival to the Queen by Carolly Erickson
    • Amazon | Book Depository | Goodreads
      • Ooh, King Henry VIII genre bargain books!  I'm ready.  Although this is set in Elizabeth's (Henry's daughter) reign.
  • The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory
    • Amazon | Book Depository | Goodreads
      • Philippa Gregory is favorite author when it comes to anything King Henry VIII.  I just devour her books (in the mind-sense).  But this is another Queen Elizabeth novel.  I'm sure I'll love it!
  • Hunger Games:  District Identification Card (in the bottom right corner)
    • Get yours here (free)
      • I jumped at this freebie.  I am a mechanic from District 6.  Kind of funny considering my family is full of mechanics.  And if you haven't seen the movie yet, I suggest you go.  It's worth it!  Side note:  Suzanne Collins wrote the screenplay for the movie, so nothing (in my opinion) from the book is compromised.

For Review (e-edition):

Grace by R Rodriguez
A book involving a girl who has a fascination with death.  Not just death, her own death.  Of course I want to read it!  I've got to get to the bottom of this.  Thanks goes to R Rodriguez for providing me a review copy!

Purchased (e-edition):

Oppression by Jessica Therrien
Go Greek Mythology!  This book caught my interest early on.  I'm glad I picked up; now I need to read it.
The Fallen Star by Jessica Sorensen
Did you know I've been obsessed with the name Gemma ever since I read the Gemma Doyle series?  I'm also obsessed with anything that goes bump in the night.  Guess you can understand why I got this book.
Hollowland by Amanda Hocking
Quite a lot of people gave this book high ratings.  And considering I'm in love with her Trylle Trilogy (even though I've only read the first book), I thought I should get this one.  Zombies, woot (maybe)!!
The Deepest Cut by JA Templeton
Another ghost story that sounds super intriguing.  It makes me wonder where the title came from...
