Bound by Flames by Jeaniene Frost

Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance
Night Prince Series, Book 3

Note:  This is the third book in a series that is a spinoff from another series.  If you don't want plots from earlier books slightly exposed, don't read anything in this post.  Your time would be better spent just starting the books from the very beginning.

Description (taken from Jeaniene Frost's website):
Play with fire, pay the price.

Leila’s years on the carnie circuit were certainly an education. What she didn’t learn: how to be a vampire, or how to be married to the most famous vampire of them all. Adjusting to both has Leila teetering on a knife edge between passion and peril, and now the real danger is about to begin…

Vlad must battle with a centuries-old enemy whose reach stretches across continents and whose strength equals his own. It isn’t like Vlad to feel fear, but he does…for Leila, because his enemy knows she is Vlad’s greatest weakness. As friend and foe alike align against him—and his overprotectiveness drives Leila away—Vlad’s love for his new bride could be the very thing that dooms them both…

Leila has just become a new vampire and married the most infamous vampire in the world:  Vlad the Impaler.  After the last book ended with Vlad's arch nemesis announcing his alive status and declaring vengeance against Dracul, this book kind of starts off with a bang.  Leila is allowed to help Vald find this enemy as long as it doesn't compromise her safety.  Then he turns into a crazy guy trying to protect his bride.

Anyone who reads this book has the basic plotlines summed down; so I'm not going to dive into them.  But I will say I enjoyed this book.  And it's exactly what I'd expect from Jeaniene Frost: vampires, action, romance, and blood.  While reading this series is kind of turning me off from Vlad's character (he's a medieval psycho controller), I still enjoy the story.  But maybe I am hoping to see more of Cat and Bones in these books.

Another one for Jeaniene Frost fans.  It doesn't disappoint for sure...

The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost

Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance
Broken Destiny Series, Book 1

Description (taken from Jeaniene Frost's website):
In a world of shadows, anything is possible. Except escaping your fate.

Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse—her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. The one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who’s bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.

Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn’t mean he can change his fate…no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn’t: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side, Adrian on the other, and nothing but ashes in between…

Ivy has lost every one she's ever loved.  Somehow, she ends up in the town where her sister was last seen before her disappearance.  With nothing left to lose, Ivy is working her way through the town trying to see if anyone's seen her sister recently.  But when evil wants disappearances buried, it'll make sure it stays buried.

Cue enterance for hot and hunky hero.  Adrian has a sinister past with a fate laced with betrayal.  So he tries to fight it.  And somehow he ends up saving Ivy.  Ivy, the girl with a quick wit and determination who also happens to be a part of the fate he's running from.  But as everything is tied together and they try to save Ivy's sister, something more seems to happen between them.

Gah.  Trying to give a nice summary of the plot without giving anything away sucks.  And I feel like this series is something new enough to step away from the vampire genre but still similar enough to keep those paranormal fans interested.  I really enjoyed it.  And all of the twists as they came.  I don't really have anything negative to say.

Jeaniene Frost fans won't be disappointed.  And it's a definite read for paranormal romance fans.

Up From the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance
Night Huntress Series, Book 7

Note:  This is the last book in a series.  Just go read the prior books if you don't want what you read below to slightly spoil them (although it's Cat and Bones - nothing can spoil them).

Description (taken from Goodreads):
There’s always one more grave to dig.

Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…

A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives—and those of everyone they hold dear— will be hovering on the edge of the grave.

The last book in this series.  No.....  It's so bittersweet to see the series end, yet I'm so happy that it ends on a good note.  This series will always be one of my favorite vampire romances out there.

Don the ghost has finally found Cat alone to inquire about her Homeland Security friends and prior coworkers.  When Cat realizes they've disappeared, she has a suspicion that Madigan, the crazy ex-CIA operative, is involving them in something fishy.  With Bones' help, willing or not, Cat dives head first to find her friends and figure out what's going on.  But when the truth comes out, she realizes there's more at stake than just losing her friends: war between the vampires and ghouls could ignite.  Bones and Cat must do everything they can to stop it while protecting their own.

I was into this book from the introduction.  And I didn't quite stop until I finished it (there were a couple of breaks in between).  This book has a really good conclusion and it ties the paranormal pieces in well.  I'm so sad to see the series end, but I find solace in the fact that I can now go read about Vlad.  And Jeaniene Frost is starting a new series that I'll be watching out for.

I must admit that Jeaniene Frost is one of my favorite authors.  She writes some of the best steamy scenes.  And I absolutely loved this series from beginning to end.  It's a definite must-read for vampire fans.

Twice Tempted by Jeaniene Frost

Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance
Night Prince Series, Book 2

Description (taken from Jeaniene Frost's website):
Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges

Leila’s psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn’t sure what the future holds. If that weren’t enough, her lover Vlad has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she’s also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won’t admit that he loves her . . .

Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity

Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity . . .

Honestly, I love Jeaniene Frost's stories.  I get so engrossed with them that time will pass me by without even noticing.  I read this book in a day, that's how into it I was.

Leila is having some relationship issues with Vlad.  She's worried he won't commit, and he's just not communicating the way people in a relationship should be communicating.  Since they're both really stubborn, we know fireworks are going to occur.  Meanwhile, Leila's life in the carnival circuit has moved on.  But the paranormal world is never going to leave her alone now that they know about her.

Vampire romance.  Dangerous paranormal surroundings.  Leila's ability to read people's deepest sins.  Vlad's need to torture his enemies.  A spotlight from Cat, our other favorite heroine of Jeaniene Frost's.  Yes, this book has everything a paranormal romance lover needs.

Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost

Genre:  Adult Paranormal Romance
Night Prince series, Book 1

Description (taken from Goodreads):
She's a mortal with dark powers...

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person's darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude...until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world's most infamous vampire...

He's the Prince of Night...

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don't call him Dracula. Vlad's ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him—a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

Is it bad that I want to deny reading these books because they're always stored in the romance section?  What's with that?  They should be in the paranormal/sci-fi section.  All the other paranormal romance is over there.  Why can't this one be there also?  Agh...  I'm a non-admitted romance lover (of the paranormal kind which only makes me more bizarre).

Once the vampires discover Leila's abilities, she becomes entwined with them.  With the main goal of staying alive, she must learn quickly who to trust and who to betray.  But when she puts her trust in Vlad, she doesn't realize he's a vampire with a history.  And he's also an arrogant prick.  (Just don't say that to his face.  Or think it for that matter.)

Talk about steaminess...  This book was awesome.  I don't understand why I waited so long to read this one.  Jeaniene Frost is one of my favorite authors, and it's because she can describe the best romantic tensions, the best lust moments, and you get where I'm going with this.  But I do have one buzz kill.  I can't stand Vlad.  Like the body, hate the guy (How can you even like a body when it's only in your head?  Yeah, Jeaniene Frost is that good).

If you're a paranormal romance lover and haven't picked up Jeaniene Frost, start with her Night Huntress series and read the books in order of publication.  My star ratings go according to Jeaniene Frost's other book ratings (otherwise this would be a 5 star).  I'll be picking up the next one soon...

One Grave at a Time by Jeaniene Frost

Genre:  Paranormal Romance
Night Huntress Series, Book 6

Note: If you haven't read this series from start to book 5, then the description has minor plot spoilers from earlier books.

Description (taken from Jeaniene Frost's website):
Having narrowly averted an (under)world war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans’ voodoo queen just keeps on giving–leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit.

Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he takes physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive. This year, however, a determined Cat and Bones must risk all to send him back to the other side of eternity–forever. But one wrong step and they’ll be digging their own graves.

I'll admit, the beginning was abnormally slow, and I was wondering if this is the book where the series goes from super exciting to meh.  But fortunately not, the last hundred pages redeemed itself.  I love vampire series.  I love the Night Huntress Series.  So no surprise that I loved this one.

This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Genre:  Paranormal Romance
Night Huntress Series, Book 5

Note:  If you haven't read this series from start to book 4, then the description has minor plot spoilers from earlier books.

Description (taken from Jeaniene Frost's website):
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they’ve triumphed over the latest battle, Cat’s new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance…

With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous “ally”—the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war. …to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

Let me warn you, I love vampire books.  So it is no surprise that I love this series.  Bones and Cat are hilarious together.  And the books are action-packed with vampires, ghouls, and such.  If you like Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong, and/or Richelle Mead, then you'll probably like the Night Huntress Series.

There was one scene in the book where I giggled non-stop.  I think Jared thought I was going nuts.  Nope, I just got into the book's scene (that's all)...
