Top Ten Books That Have Been On My Shelf For The Longest But I've Never Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly post hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  This week's post is the Top Ten Books That Have Been on my Shelf for the Longest But I've Never Read.

Considering I have a million books in boxes hidden behind my couch (I never did unpack them since I figured an apartment wasn't a very permanent home), I'll have to list books I've received in the last year that I haven't read yet.  Sorry there isn't ten (I've been working hard lately to getting them read).

1.  A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin
My husband is currently reading this series.  He told me I should read it because I'd most likely like it.  And then I heard more people talk about the books and the HBO series.  They compared George RR Martin to JRR Tolkien, only the American version.  They obviously thought that idea would make me want to read the series, but it did the exact opposite.  I didn't care for Lord of the Rings (movies nor the books - although I never got out of the Shire while attempting the books).  However, I may give this series a try in the near future.  It'll probably appear in my IMM post when I'm ready to consider it one of to-read books.

2.  A Whisper of Blood:  A Collection of Modern Vampire Stories by Ellen Datlow
I believe I picked this book up from a Borders clearance pile.  I let my mom borrow it, and she never finished all of the stories.  Since her review was less than stellar, I just never got around to this book.

3.  Divergent by Veronica Roth
I picked up this book because it was highly recommended as something similar to The Hunger Games (but different).  My husband read it and said it was alright.  And then I got too involved with my library books.  Having due dates makes me more likely to read my library books than the ones I own.  But I promise I will read this book soon...

4.  Fallen by Lauren Kate
My husband got me this book for my birthday.  My birthday was nine months ago.  This book looks intriguing; I just never picked it up.  I got too wrapped up in Kelley Armstrong's books (there's about twelve books in her series and it's good).  It's on my current to-read list.
5.  Interred with Their Bones by Jennifer Lee Carrell
Another book that I picked up from a Borders clearance pile.  The plot seemed intriguing.  I just never picked it up...

6.  Misguided Angel by Melissa De La Cruz
Another book my husband gave to me for my birthday.  This is book five in the Blue Bloods series.  I loved this series in college, but guess what happens when you wait a couple years before continuing the series?  You get lost and confused; that's what happened to me when I attempted book four.  I came to the conclusion that I was going to have to reread the whole series before starting this book.  Unfortunately, books one through four are in boxes that aren't easily accessible right now.

7.  Nightwalker by Jocelynn Drake
This book was given to me for Christmas last year.  You'd think that my husband would disown me since I don't read some of the books he gives me.  But that is not the case; he ends up introducing me to new series that I eventually do read.  And I can't start another series until I finish the current series.  Anyways, this book was one of three vampire/paranormal books that Jared (the husband) painstakingly researched and surprised me with on Christmas.  I will get to this one day...

8.  The Vampire's Promise by Caroline B Cooney
I picked this book out with a giftcard from my birthday nine months ago.  And you guessed it, I never read it.  I picked it out because Caroline B Cooney was one of my favorite authors as a kid/teenager.

Any suggestions on which ones I should read sooner rather than later??

  1. I love Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series!! (And it is much, much better then Fallen).

I liked Divergent, but I wouldn't compare it to the Hunger Games. It's a dystopian, but that's about where the similarities end.

I've also heard great things about Game of Thrones, but the LORT comparisons have made me wary - I really didn't enjoy those books.

  2. You have a fun list... all those books look great to read. I'm just starting Game of Thrones - not far enough along to say like or don't, yet. Definitely outside of normal boundaries!!

  4. Divergent does have similarities to THG, I'll say that, but I think it's a brilliant novel nonetheless. Definitely worth reading!
