Blog Tour: Halo of the Damned by DIna Rae

Welcome to my stop for the Halo of the Damned Blog Tour.  It features my review of the novel, the book trailer, and Dina Rae's bio.

Halo of the Damned by Dina Rae
Genre:  Adult Paranormal Fantasy

Description (taken from the Blog Tour):
A chain of advertising agencies, a new breed of humans, and a fallen angel to worship…

Andel Talistokov is known for his slick advertising agencies across the globe. He is a fallen angel that uses advertising as a weapon for Satan's work. His growing power emboldens him to break several of Hell’s Commandments. Furious with his arrogance, Satan commands him to return to Hell after finding his own replacement. Yezidism, an ancient angel worshiping religion, quietly expands throughout the West. Armaros appears as a guest of honor during their ceremonies. He mates with young women to produce nephilim, a mixed race of humans and angels. They are alone and unprepared for their supernatural power. Joanna Easterhouse, a recovering drug addict, steps out of prison shortly after her mother's fatal accident. She and her sister, Kim, unravel their mother's secretive past. Intrigued, they learn their bloodline is part of a celestial legacy. Both worlds collide. Halo of the Damned is a horrifying tale that weaves research together with suspenseful twists and turns.

When I first saw this book, it was labeled as paranormal romance, however I don't agree with the romance part.  Yes, there are relationships of the romantic sort that form in the book, but that's a very small part to the plot.  It kind of threw me off a little.

Armaros, a fallen angel who's been roaming earth for quite some time, is called to return back home to Hell.  This kind of dampens his plans for world domination and all, so he tries to stop it.  Meanwhile, there are a lot of loose ends he created by having kids with followers of the Yezidi religion.  And somehow, ironically, things tend to wrap up rather nicely in the end.

So what about my reactions to this book?  Well, portraying angels as some freaky demons with vampire-like characteristics, I found it intriguing.  I want to say this book definitely had some horror points to it.  By the middle of the book, I was hooked and reading it straight to the finish.  However, there was one character (the six-year-old girl) that just never made sense to me throughout the whole book.  Overall, I did enjoy this read.  It's definitely nice to get out of the young adult genre.

And the whole play on advertising.  I loved it.  All the eye-rolling that ensued when reading anything advertising-related, it was definitely fun.  Well not fun exactly, but hopefully you know what I mean.

Who would I recommend this to?  Definitely adults.  If you're into angels and want to read an interesting play on them, then this would be a good one.  I'd also say if you like paranormal things and are considering horror novels, then this might be a start.  I also want to say if you're a fan of Dan Brown's books (which I am not), then you should check these out (but I'm guessing here).

  1. Thanks for reading and reviewing my book. I agree that it is horror and not paranormal romance. I queried it as horror. Love the Dan Brown comparison! He is one of my faves. Dina Rae
