Linger by Maggie Stiefvater

Genre:  YA Paranormal Romance
Wolves of Mercy Falls, Book 2

Description (taken from Goodreads):
In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in Linger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past . . . and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack. And Isabel, who already lost her brother to the wolves . . . and is nonetheless drawn to Cole.

At turns harrowing and euphoric, Linger is a spellbinding love story that explores both sides of love -- the light and the dark, the warm and the cold -- in a way you will never forget.

I really think I'm lacking in the 'love Maggie Stiefvater books' gene.  This book put me to sleep not once, but twice...  It's an alright story line, but the plot moves very slowly.  And the romance?  I honestly don't understand why everyone thinks Sam and Grace are the perfect romantic couple.  I saw they were in love, but I didn't feel any sparkle shining out of those pages.

Truly, I thought Grace's character was way too whiny for my tastes.  And I felt like Sam was constantly brooding and getting nothing done.  However, adding Cole and Isabel into the book made it a little more interesting.  My personal opinion, I thought Isabel was the only person doing something worthwhile in the book.

Did I like this book?  Not really.  Do I feel bad about it and wonder what on earth I'm missing that makes me not enjoy these books?  Absolutely.  Will I read the third one?  Nope.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Genre:  YA Paranormal Romance
Wolves of Mercy Falls Series, Book 1

Description (taken from Maggie Stiefvater's website):
For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can’t seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human… until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

This book is meant for anyone who loves romance.  It reminded me eerily of Twilight, but it doesn't involve vampires.  The romance between Grace and Sam is described beautifully and the story was done well.  But it didn't hold my interest.  Sure, I'm a romantic at heart, but I like there to be more action than what was in this book.

Will I likely continue this series?  Probably.  But before I recommend it to others, I'll warn them that they have to like romance.  If they didn't like Twilight (just the first book, not the series), then they probably won't like this book.  And who knows, maybe the books in the series will get better.
